PEMF

Yorkshire Vet Physio, Vet Physio Yorkshire, Synergy Vet Physio Yorkshire, Animal Physio Yorkshire,

What is Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy?

Pulsed electromagnetic field therapy (PEMF), uses pulsating magnetic fields to affect the function of the cell and to help to restore the normal balance in the damaged cells.

Unbalanced cells result in inflammation and pain, however by treating the problems with PEMF provides an anti- inflammatory effect and a natural pain relief.

What can PEMF help with?

PEMF can provide healing and assistance with a wide variety of conditions including...

  • Ligament or tendon damage - aids a quicker, more efficient and effective repair.
  • Orthopaedic condition - provides natural pain relief for a range of orthopaedic problems, one of the most popular being arthritis.
  • Reducing inflammation and oedema
  • Healing fractures - aids a quicker, more effective and efficient repair.
  • Pain relief - Natural pain relief if your animal cannot take medication.
  • Pre and Post operative care - if you animal is pre or post surgery the healing properties of PEMF can assist with a full recovery.

How is PEMF administrated?

Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy is used in treatments with the use of a magnetic coil. Our therapist will treat using specific equipment designed for treating a dog with arthritis all the way through to a horse with a tendon injury.

The coil is put in the area of the condition and the devise is set to the correct specification for the condition.

When PEMF is being used to treat tendon and ligament injuries a course of treatment is required. This is very patient specific, so please feel free to contact us to discuss your requirements.

How does PEMF work?

Every tissue within the body is made up of cells. Every healthy cell has a specific sequence of ions, some with a positive charge and some with a negative charge.

When a cell becomes unhealthy or diseased by a condition or injury, the ion sequence becomes unbalanced and the negative ions take over the cell.

PEMF uses magnetic pulses to move the ions and recreate the correct order and sequence of ions, allowing the cell to gain its healthy structure once again.

PEMF Treatments

This horse had torn 60% of its Deep digital flexor tendon and unfortunately the injury had been left for some time without treatment.

PEMF treatment was given along with box rest and equine physiotherapy and 6 months later she was sound.

Ultrasound

Vet Physio Yorkshire, Yorkshire Vet Physio, Equine Physio Yorkshire, Animal Physio Yorkshire, Horse

What is it?

Therapeutic Ultrasound is a technique used to treat animals for a variety of conditions. The common misconception with therapy ultrasound is that it will show an image of the structure being treated. This is not the case, the Ultrasound is a treatment technique.

How does it work?

Using an ultrasound beam the mechanical therapy machine works at specifically set frequencies and wavelengths to penetrate the body cells. The cells are regenerated and establish the correct alignment of new and repairing tissue fibres.

A conductive ultrasound gel is used alongside the machine.

What can it be used to treat?

Ultrasound can assist with the following conditions...

  • Inflammation
  • Muscle Soreness
  • Tendon & Ligament Injury
  • Nerve damage
  • Neurological conditions

Phototherapy

Equine Laser Therapy, Canine lazer therapy, Yorkshire Vet Physio Equine Physio Yorkshire,Horse Rebab

What is it and why use it?

Phototherapy is very similar to laser therapy. The difference is that we offer blue light therapy and red light therapy.

Blue light therapy is an exceptional device allowing us to kill bacteria and dangerous micro- organisms. Ideal for cleaning a wound, reduce proud flesh and skin disease caused by fungal or bacterial infection.

The red light therapy follows this, enabling the cells on the edges of the wound to be stimulated, causing a quicker healing time with less chance of scarring.

Red light phototherapy can be applied to the acupuncture points to release endorphins and warm through muscles.

Electrical Muscular Stimulation (EMS)

Vet Physio Yorkshire, Yorkshire Vet Physio, EquinePhysioYorkshire,EquineRehabYorkshire,

What is EMS?

Electrical Muscle Stimulation is an accepted and proven way of treating muscle injuries.

How does EMS work?

Electrical Muscle Stimulation works by sending electronic pulses to the muscle, causing the muscle to contact. As the EMS machine sends comfortable impulses through the hair and skin it stimulates the nerves in area covered with the probe. As the muscle reacts to the signal it passes through the muscle fibres causing a physical exercise without the strain of any body or limb weight. It is ideal for canine rehabilitation and equine rehabilitation.

What is EMS used for?

  • Relaxation of muscle spasms
  • Prevention or reduction of muscle atrophy
  • Increasing local blood circulation
  • Muscle and nerve re-education
  • Immediate post surgery stimulation
  • Maintaining and increasing range of motion.
